Nine Million Bicycles

There are 'nine million bicycles in Beijing...that's a fact.."
Or so a haunting voice says. The song is not about Beijing at all though. It is still beautiful and addictive...which made me replay it some dozen times at least since I last heard it yesterday at 2 in night....or rather in the wee little hours of today. It is still mesmirizing to think that there are 6 billion people in the world and that I still like you...a question which had been haunting me for sometime now. Do we get attached to people because it is what we choose to do at this point of our lives. What is love? Or is the pretension of love not a game but a duty we choose to undertake as we go through our lives. Nothing dishonest there, or sinful...it is my dear, Is it only the fact that moments of familiarity builds up intimate histories that are precious to us? If so, then my dear why not just anyone...Yes I choose to care..I choose to belong ... no matter whom...and if soulmates are just bedtime stories..and if erstwhile soulmates are the only people you can connect too but don't love them anymore, does the term retain any meaning at all?

There are nine million bicycles in Beijing....and I belong to you....nothing spectacular there...is it far more exciting to sprout your wings and fly off...a traveller in the world....

But then, are there nine million bicycles in Beijing really? Why does no one talks about that...why does love and you and me supercedes nine million bicycles ..nice million bicycles in a land were a dream had been dreamed...and a world to its own...a world which I heard of in distant past...a faraway film...'Why I was born' smacking of poignancy and poetry....and there some millions of legs are pedalling away with energy some light years away even at this moment....is that not significant enough...

....fancy...no one talks about it...
